Update: Nasopharyngeal swabs readily available to European and US medical industry and testing centers

Belgian 3D printing company, Ziggzagg has received a CE certification for their HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology 3D printed nasopharyngeal swabs. Ziggzagg is the first company in the world to receive this certification for 3D printed nasopharyngeal swabs. CE certification means that the product meets EU standards for health, safety, and environmental protection and so can be sold and used within the EU and countries recognizing the CE mark.

HP worked closely with leading researchers at Harvard University and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to assist with gathering test data and refining 3D printed nasopharyngeal test swab designs, materials, and printing capacity. The Abiogenix spiral swab, 3D printed by FATHOM, using HP MJF technology, was one of four swab prototypes—selected after the review of more than 100 designs—that showed excellent concordance with the controls in the IRB-approved clinical trial. The Abiogenix swab is readily available to the US medical industry and testing centers.

Optimized by Avid Product Development for 3D Printing with HP Multi Jet Fusion technology.

DfAM face shield frame prints in a compact geometry for maximum efficiency. Part assembles into the 3D shape by placing the face shield on the pins, connecting the headband, and then adjusting the back strap to fit user’s head.

P2 Half Mask designed by HP

The 3D printable reusable P2 mask has been tested in the CNMP-INSST Testing Laboratory with successful results.

Tested against EN 1827 partially applied for protection against SARS-CoV-2. Made with BASF Ultrasint® TPU01.

Consists of:
  • A 3D printable half mask body, designed to cover nose , mouth and chin and seal against the face.
  • No exhalation valve helps optimize protection.
  • Two 3D retaining rings, which hold two replaceable FM P2 NR penetration protection class filters in place. Not intended to protect against oily based aerosols in industrial use.
  • Two elastic straps, which are attached to the mask body through dedicated features.
  • Filters needs to be replaced after each working shift.
  • Replaceable face piece must be cleaned and disinfected according to the manufacturer´s instructions and using products approved by national health authorities.

Approximately 30 mask bodies can be produced in a full build with the HP Jet Fusion 5200 3D Printing Solution.

Personal protective equipment - a half-mask - with a P3 replaceable external filter. The set consists of a 3D printed body of the mask and an external filter.

Stopgap Face Mask (SFM)

Stopgap Face Mask (SFM)

The Stopgap Face Mask was created as an emergency action in an effort to provide backup PPE options if the standard PPE has become unavailable.

It consists of two main components (the mask body and the filter cover) and contains features for attaching two elastic straps and receiving a patch of filter material. It is recommended that the rectangular filter patch and elastic straps are disposed of after every use of this device.

Bellus3D Face Mask Fitter

A personalized 3D printed frame contoured to the specific shape of the user's face to optimize the peripheral seal of surgical or similar masks to the face. The frame fits a person's facial geometry and is automatically generated from a 3D face scan using the Bellus3D Face App or Dental Pro Apple iOS application for Apple iPhone X, iPhone 11 or iPad Pro with FaceId capability.

Use a mask sealer to optimize both comfort and sealing of your FFP2, surgical or textile mouth mask.

The mask sealer is a 3D printed frame designed for solid sealing around the mouth & nose area.

By the use of a 2-point measuring system (nose-to-chin) the wearer can choose between 5 sizes for a solid, comfortable sealing. As the mask sealer is 3D printed in soft grade TPU, the sealer is reusable and easily adjusts itself around the user’s face.

An average of 300 units can be produced per TPU build with HP Jet Fusion 3D Printing Solutions.

Cressi® CPAP Mask Connector

A group of healthcare professionals from the Consorci Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí hospital and 3DPTLab tested the effectiveness of an adapted full-face diving mask (Duke model from Cressi®) acting as a continuous positive airway pressure system to provide non-invasive ventilation, in the event of a shortage in the supply of officially approved CPAP devices.

Available in Spain on a temporary and limited basis for uses related to COVID-19 emergency response.

Wrist Cover

Wrist Cover

Currently, some hospital staff need to use two gloves in order to fully cover the part of their arms that could get exposed between the end of a lab coat sleeve and the end of a glove: One interior glove to close the end of the sleeve of the lab coat, and then a disposable glove on top of the interior glove. This sterilizable wrist cover device was designed based on feedback from hospital staff, who were looking for a way to cover the exposed skin on their arm, whilst minimizing the number of gloves that are used unnecessarily, as these are currently in short supply.

This device does not replace PPE. USE ALWAYS with gloves and medical gown. This is a supplementary device that should always be used on top of homologated PPE.

Field Respirator

Field respirator

First industrialized field 3D printed emergency respiration device to support hospitals and ICUs. A mechanical bag valve mask (BVM) that can be used for short term emergency ventilation of COVID-19 patients. 3D printing allows this health system to be made available quickly during the shortage of medical equipment. With HP Multi Jet Fusion technology and existing capabilities in the alliance, both in design and in prototyping, the functionality of this first model of the largely 3D printed emergency respiration device has been developed and tested. Industrially scalable – expectation is that the production capacity of between 50 and 100 units per day can be reached.

Design created by Leitat senior engineer Mr. Magí Galindo, and medically validated by Dr. Lluís Blanch, Director of Innovation at the Hospital Parc Taulí in Sabadell, an expert in mechanical ventilation.
